BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - The Townsend Hotel, metropolitan Detroit's premier boutique hotel, hosts Afternoon Tea served in the timeless English tradition under the guidance of Afternoon Tea Director Laura Klein. Afternoon Tea is served Tuesday through Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the elegant English-style lobby of The Townsend Hotel.

Afternoon Tea guests enjoy Earl Grey and Decaffeinated Raspberry teas, two varieties that have been staples of the service for years. The tea is complemented with light, yet satisfying fare that includes a chef's selection of eight sandwiches, individual scones with clotted cream and lemon curd and four distinct desserts. Silk napkins, Royal Doulton china, crisp linens and beautiful place settings create an elegance that allows guests a friendly repose from a busy day.

"Afternoon Tea has become such a resounding success that reservations are now required," said Klein. "Our Victorian-style afternoon tea gives guests the opportunity to take a break from a hectic day, relax and enjoy the elegantly prepared tea sandwiches and pastries while listening to classical music. The graceful practice of afternoon tea began in 1830 by the Duchess of Bedford and is regarded as a relaxing, leisurely break between the busy activities surrounding lunch and the hectic pace of dinner.
